Azambuja Portugal

Azambuja, is a Portuguese village in the District of Lisbon and Ribatejo, with about 6 300 inhabitants. It is soothes of a municipality with 262,66 km ² of area and 21 814 inhabitants (2011), subdivided in 7 parishes. The municipality is bordered to the north by the municipality of Rio Maior, to the northeast by Santarém, to the east by Cartaxo, to the southeast by Salvaterra de Magos, to the south by Benavente and Vila Franca de Xira, and to the west by Alenquer and Cadaval. Since 2002, Azambuja has been integrated in the Alentejo statistical region (NUTS II) and in the statistical sub-region (NUTS III) of Lezíria do Tejo; continues to be part of the Regional Coordination and Development Commission of Lisbon and Tagus Valley, which retained the designation of the former NUTS II with the same name. It still belongs to the old province of Ribatejo, but today without any political-administrative significance. It should also be noted that until 2004, the municipality of Azambuja was part of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, and then joined the Urban Community of Lezíria do Tejo, whose territory coincides with the NUTS III with the same name.
