Alenquer Portugal

Alenquer is a municipality in the Oeste Subregion in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 43,267, in an area of 304.22 km². The present Mayor is Jorge Riso, elected by the Socialist Party. The village of Alenquer, in the district of Lisbon, is the capital of the municipality of the same name, which has an area of ​​302.18 km² and with 39 180 inhabitants in 2001, is located on the right bank of the Alenquer stream (tributary of the Tagus), about 40 km northwest of the capital. With a very resistant structure, the county is dominated by the hill of the north, Montejunto and west by the Galician and Alta mountains. It is divided into 16 parishes. It borders on the north with the council of Cadaval, on the east with Azambuja, on the south with Vila Franca de Xira and Arruda dos Vinhos, on the southwest with Sobral de Monte Agraço and on the west with Torres Vedras.
